Have you started to use LinkedIn endorsements?
If you haven’t identified some skills in your profile now’s the time to do so. It’s a valuable and useful function on your LinkedIn profile. It’s the sort of feature that will help you to be found by the right people – if you use it intelligently.
Your first level or degree connections can endorse your skills via your profile. However, you need to make sure you identify the right sort of key words. Remember how LinkedIn works. You can search for skills as well as searching for people or groups or companies. Just make sure the skills you want to be found for are mentioned in your skills and endorsements section.
Endorsing people – and being endorsed in this way – is faster than getting or giving recommendations. Choose the right terms and you will enhance your profile and your prospects.
LinkedIn Endorsements In Action
So how have I used LinkedIn endorsements?
As of October 2012 the list of terms I used was:
LinkedIn profile writing, ghostwriting, public speaking, workshop facilitation, content marketing, business strategy, LinkedIn® strategy sessions, corporate social media, writing for the web, marketing, persuasive communication, business coaching.
When you look at my profile this is how the entry looks. If you check out my profile today, you will see how things have changed.
Back in 2012 I had six endorsements for public speaking. I had four endorsements for my work as a business strategist and so on.
(I’ve masked the identities of the people who have endorsed me, as it’s good practice to do so.)
Improve Your LinkedIn Profile With Endorsements
What you should do now is to make sure you have added skills and expertise to your LinkedIn profile. You should think carefully about the terms you choose. Make sure they reflect the products and services you sell or the things you wish to emphasise about your career.
